The purpose of this recruitment is to fill immediate openings and to establish an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Engineer. The Depoe Bay Fire District invites experienced candidates to apply for the position of Firefighter/Engineer. An interview and assessment examination are tentatively scheduled for the first week of March 2024. COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: JOB STATUS: Full-Time/Permanent - 48 / 96 Shift Schedule COMPENSATION: $60,240.00-$76,176.00 annually

PLUS QUALIFIYING INCENTIVES and a generous benefits package. (*Annual Compensation above includes mandated pay in accordance with FLSA) An additional 6% of base pay for paramedics, 2% for Intermediates or Advanced, and additional rescue and special assignment incentives are available. FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Shift Captain Lateral candidates will be offered an expedited interview and hiring process and abbreviated probationary periods. Starting salary commensurate with experience, up to top step, for years of service. Front-loaded vacation and sick leave will be granted upon Fire Chief approval with proof of similar accrual rates. Lateral Candidates are not required to submit a current physical agility so long as they are currently employed. DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of a Fire Captain, performs all the duties of a Firefighter/Engineer, Firefighter, EMT or Paramedic and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of fire vehicles, apparatus, and equipment. Performs other duties as required.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES: Performs all of the duties of a Firefighter/Engineer, Firefighter/EMT or Paramedic and participates in all phases of fire company operations, as assigned; operates and drives vehicles, apparatus, and equipment in a safe and professional manner; determines and drives via the fastest route to the emergency scene; responds to fires and other emergency and non-emergency incidents; operates pumps and other equipment specific to the assigned fire service apparatus; performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance. Maintains vehicle inventory in accordance with District policies and procedures, including maintenance of accurate records and the writing of reports; assists with the training of Firefighters in the knowledge, skills and duties of fire service vehicles, apparatus, equipment operation, and maintenance. May assume the responsibilities of a Fire Captain when qualified by the organization. Functions in the capacity of a fireground officer in the absence of a Fire Captain. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES TO: Safely operate assigned vehicles, apparatus, equipment in an efficient and effective manner; perform minor preventative maintenance to keep equipment operational; assist in the selection of the route to drive to the emergency scene; perform all Firefighter/EMT or Paramedic duties; develop and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; maintain accurate, up-to-date logs and records on vehicle, apparatus and equipment maintenance; write clear, concise reports; assist in program management and training others in the requirements of the position; perform duties and responsibilities of a Fire Captain when qualified by the organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: The physical demands herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position requires that the individual be capable of meeting the 13 essential job tasks listed in Chapter 5, NFPA 1582 "Standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments" 2007 Edition. Environment: Office setting with travel to emergency rescue and/or firefighting incidents; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, and extreme heat; work at heights on ladders; work with water. Mobility: Incumbent may be required to maintain physical condition necessary for standing and walking for prolonged periods of time; heavy or moderate lifting; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; climbing with both legs and arms; operating motorized equipment and vehicles. Vision: Vision sufficient to distinguish objects in limited visibility; to read small print, computer screens and printed documents.

OTHER CHARACTERISTICS: Must be willing and have the ability to work such hours as necessary to accomplish the job requirements, remain awake for long periods of time (including 48 hour periods) under strenuous situations, attend meetings, seminars, and conferences during or after work hours, travel out of town or out of state for several days at a time, work under adverse conditions such as those inherent in emergency firefighting situations, consistently follow through with duties/assignments and work harmoniously with subordinates and superiors, wear approved uniform. Report for work on a regular, consistent basis and maintain an acceptable attendance record in accordance with District policy. MINIMUM OUALIFICATIONS: Experience: Lateral applicants must have at least 12 months of verifiable and Current Full-Time (non-probationary) status as a Firefighter with regular Apparatus Operator duties OR employment as a ranked Engineer (or higher) with a recognized fire agency. Entry Level applicants must have Engineer experience and meet the following criteria listed below. Knowledge of: Firefighter/EMT or Paramedic duties in accordance with industry standards; operations, policies and procedures relating to the responsibilities of the Fire Apparatus Engineer position; the operation and maintenance of vehicles, apparatus, and equipment; streets and local geography; Fire Captain duties and responsibilities, policies and procedures when qualified by the organization. Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or a high school proficiency certificate. License: Possession of a valid Class C Oregon Driver’s License. Certifications: • EMS - State of Oregon Paramedic License (Preferred), EMT, EMT-A, or EMT-I • Health Care Provider (or equivalent) CPR • Oregon DPSST or NFPA Equivalent Certifications of the following: NFPA FF1, NFPA Driver, NFPA Pumper Operator, NFPA Mobile Water Supply Operator Preferred Qualifications: • Oregon DPSST or NFPA Equivalent Certification: Firefighter II, Fire Officer I • Experience as a Company Officer • Hazardous Materials Operations • Oregon State Paramedic License or NREMT Paramedic Certification with the ability to obtain licensure in the State of Oregon • ACLS, PALS, PHTLS • NWCG FFT2, FFT1, Engine Boss, Wildland Apparatus Operator For additional information, including the job application , please go to the Depoe Bay Fire District website at www.depoebayfire.com
