Depoe Bay Firefighters respond to 2 structure fires

The first fire was reported shortly after 1 am Depoe Bay Fire units responded to a reported structure fire at the lodge at Salishan. Upon arrival fire was visible from the roof around the chimney area. Depoe Bay Fire Responded with 2 engines and 2 Chief Officers and 6 personnel and was assisted by Pacific West Ambulance, North Lincoln Fire Rescue Responded with a ladder Truck and 6 Personnel, and Newport Fire Department responded with 1 engine and 4 personnel.

Further, investigation a fire was located in a void space around the chimney in the Attic Lounge area of the resort. The interior fire was being contained by automatic fire sprinklers. Crews deployed hose lines and finished extinguishing the fire and checked for fire extension. The sprinklers performed well in that it kept the fire confined until firefighters could arrive on scene. The fire was fully extinguished within about 2 hours, crews remained on scene until about 530 am Investigators were on scene until approximately noon.

The lodge was back up and in operation by early afternoon on the 20th

Also on the 20th at about 330 pm Depoe Bay Fire crews responded to a residential structure fire at 125 Breeze Street in the Lincoln Beach area. Upon arrival crews found heavy smoke from the roof and gable ends. The fire was found to be in the attic and had extended out from a faulty chimney. The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes and crews cleared the scene by about 430 pm.

Depoe Bay Fire responded with 2 engines and 2 chief Officers with a total of 7 personnel. Newport provided an engine for District coverage and North Lincoln Fire provided an engine.

Depoe Bay Rural Fire Protection District Covers fourteen miles of the central Oregon coast from the Siletz Keys South to Otter Rock.
